Here are our few major rules for submissions:

 

  • nothing overly violent, racist, sexist, homophobic, or hateful in general

  • you must be aged 13 to 19 for your submission(s) to be considered

  • work(s) must be in English

  • must be formatted as described below

 

Send your submissions with concerning genre in the subject line, your age, your school, your bio, and short description of how your submission(s) relates to the theme if the issue is themed.Work must be in a common font and size twelve.

 

Previously published piece must be acknowledged in the email subject as well as in the body of the submission. Being on a personal blog counts as previously published. Take note that unpublished work will take priority over previously published work.

 

Simultaneous submission are accepted, but Sugar Rascals will not be responsible for any conflicts that may arise. Please shoot us an email immediately if your work has been accepted elsewhere!

 

Multiple submissions in different categories are allowed (for example, art and poetry) but please wait for a response for each submission before sending more work.

Please note that submissions that don't follow these guidelines will be deleted unread.

 

We will get back to your submission within a month, but if we happen to keep your work longer than that, please let us know by email.

 

Poetry

 

Our editors welcome contemporary, hybrid, rhyming, basically all forms.
And here is some advice: revise, revise, revise!

Send 1-3 poems in a single email.

 

Art

 

Submit anything that can be qualified as art: photographs, paintings, drawings, collages, etc.
Please send as a PNG. No fanart, please, we want your original characters!

Send up to 10 pieces in a single email.

 

Prose

 

Fiction, non-fiction, send your best work. For advice, please refer to Poetry. We also accept flash fiction in this category. No fanfiction, please. Again, we want your original ideas and characters!

Send 1-2 pieces in a single email.

 

Rascal Reviews

​

Reviews should be at least 3 paragraphs long and should cover the book's pacing, plot development, character development, general writing and other topics mentioned in previous Rascals Reviews. Please send with a quote that is symbolizes the book and grabs the reader's attention.

By submitting your work, you agree to  to giving Sugar Rascals first serial rights (if previously unpublished), archival rights, and the right to reproduce work in a future anthology or for promotional purposes.
